Program Requirements

Enroll at a Partner University

All scholars are required to enroll at either the University of Stuttgart or the University of Tübingen within their first year in IMPRS-IS. Fulfilling university requirements is mandatory for all scholars. For those with MPI-IS contracts, registering as a student and paying the student fees is mandatory.

Thesis Advisory Committee

All scholars must assemble a valid Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) with whom you meet once a year (i.e., 3-4 times over the course of the program). Find more details concerning the thesis advisory agreement here.

IMPRS-IS Boot Camps

All scholars must attend all IMPRS-IS boot camps. If unavoidable circumstances or emergency situations prevent you from attending, an email detailing the matter must be sent to the coordianation office and your supervisor, at which point we will evaluate your request. 

Credit Points 

As mentioned in the TAC agreement, all scholars are required to collect 12 credit points during their PhD studies. You will work with your supervisor to develop a course of action, specific to your academic needs, for earning these credits points. I will also happily facilitate this process, so please reach out with questions or concerns. Some scholars might be asked by their TAC to earn additional credit points — this is decided on a case-by-case basis.

Acknowledge IMPRS-IS in Publications

We kindly ask that you acknowledge IMPRS-IS in all publications while in our program. Find suggested citation phrasing and IMPRS-IS branding elements here.

Update Your ZEBRA Profile

All scholars have received credentials for their Zentralized Electronic Buddy for Research and Administration (ZEBRA) account. You must keep your ZEBRA account up to date, including documentation of all five requirements listed above. Through ZEBRA we will track your academic progress, offer you support, and follow up on your development.
