The 2024 IMPRS-IS Boot Camp will take place at the AllgaüStern Hotel from Wednesday, September 18, to Friday, September 20. Attending scholars, faculty, and other community members have already registered for the event.
Participants can always find the most up-to-date event schedule here. Some highlights of the event will be a keynote by our faculty Michael J. Black, four scientific talks by members of our faculty and associated faculty, over 80 poster presentations by our scholars, a special talk about being a scientist by Bob Williamson, a panel discussion about career steps after the doctorate, and 11 interactive learning tutorials. If you have questions about this event or your registration status, please contact the IMPRS-IS coordination office (imprs@is.mpg.de).

Information for Participants Before Departure
Boot Camp Preparation: We only ask that you read through your assigned Pub Chat publication prior to the event. There will not be a lot of time to read onsite, and we are unable to provide printed copies of publications onsite. Out of respect to your Pub Chat discussion leader, please come prepared to discuss the selected publication. Other than that, there is nothing to prepare. Laptops are not required for this event unless listed as a prerequisite for your assigned tutorial.
Health: Protecting the health of our attendees is of the utmost importance to us as we prepare for this large event. If you are too sick to come, that is understandable, as we ask that you not attend. Importantly, please contact the coordination office (imprs@is.mpg.de) ASAP if you are faced with illness. We will ask that show proof from a physician (Krankenschein) if you are not able to attend the Boot Camp due to illness.
Transportation: Shuttle buses will depart from both MPI-IS Tübingen and MPI-IS Stuttgart to transport participants to the venue. Buses will depart between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. CEST on Wednesday, September 18. Busses will not wait for you if you arrive after 8:00 a.m. Don't be late!
Accommodation: We have booked you a room for the entire duration of the event. All scholars and associated students will be sharing rooms. Most rooms will be shared by two individuals, and some are for up to four individuals. Participants will gain entry to their rooms at 17:00 on Wednesday.
Arrival: Upon arrival, participants will receive more details about checking in, receiving room keys, and storing belongings prior to room access. You are allowed to ask for your room key from the hotel reception upon arrival; however, the hotel cannot guarantee that all keys will be available by 11:00 a.m. Again, even if you have your room key early, room check-in is strictly available only after 17:00.
Registration: When you arrive at the venue, please visit the IMPRS-IS reception desk to check in and pick up your name tag. We ask that you wear your name tag for all activities of the Boot Camp.
Clothing: Currently, the weather forecast is projecting between 16°C and 18°C in the region for our travel dates with a possibility of rain. We do not have any planed hikes this year, and there will not be any mandatory time outdoors (except the possibility of a quick outdoor group picture). Please pack accordingly.
Participant Contributions: We're getting a lot of questions about poster presenters and helpers at the moment. Anyone selected to present or serve as helper has already been contacted at this point. Thank you to everyone for your willingness to volunteer.
Image Policy: IMPRS-IS will be taking photographs during the Boot Camp. If you do not wish to be photographed, please pick up a red sticker at reception and place it on your name tag for the duration of the Boot Camp. Kindly inform the reception team so we can document your preference. IMPRS-IS and MPI-IS reserve the right to reuse images taken during the event for promotional purposes, which may include our website, printed materials, or other platforms to highlight the program.
Alcoholic Beverages: Bringing alcohol to the Boot Camp venue is strictly prohibited. Outside of the Think & Drink poster sessions, where complimentary wine will be offered, all alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the venue's bar. Drinks cannot be charged to your room, so please be prepared to pay with cash or card.
Checkout: Please try to check out of your room early on Friday morning, no later than 9:15 a.m. Everyone needs to be checked out of their rooms, have their luggage stored, and be in the lecture hall for the start of our special talk at 9:30 a.m. There could be some wait time at the reception desk if traffic is heavy, and it might take a few minutes to store luggage, so please plan accordingly.
Thank you to everyone who makes the boot camp possible!
